Participant Recruitment

We are recruiting subjects for studies involving electroencephalography (EEG), functional magnetic resonance Imaging (fMRI), transcranial direct-current stimulation (tDCS), and transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS). If you would like to participate in our studies, please contact us and we will add you to our research participant mailing list.

EEG: Eligibility Requirements

  • Normal vision (corrected vision with contacts is okay, but NOT glasses)
  • Hair must NOT have braids or dreadlocks

fMRI: Eligibility Requirements

  • Normal vision (corrected vision with contacts is okay, but NOT glasses)
  • NOT be claustrophobic
  • NOT have any metal or electrical implants
  • NOT have any non-removable jewelry
  • NOT pregnant

tDCS and TMS: Eligibility Requirements

  • No history of seizures
  • No immediate family members who have epilepsy
  • NOT have any metal or electrical implants

Research assistants

We occasionally have openings for volunteer UCSB undergraduate research assistants to help with data collection and analysis. Research assistants receive course credit by enrolling in Psy 99 or 199. The description and requirements associated with the position are listed below.

Research Assistant Duties

  • Help administer experiments involving computer testing, fMRI, EEG, tDCS, and TMS.
  • Participate in pilot studies (as necessary).
  • Assist in experimental design or data analysis (as necessary). This may include selecting stimuli for an experiment, conducting relevant literature reviews, or helping to analyze data.

Desired Qualities

  • GPA of 3.5 or higher
  • Sophomore standing or higher
  • Psychology or Biopsychology major
  • Ability to work long-term (at least 3 quarters)
  • Strong communication skills
  • Highly self-motivated, reliable, and professional
